Scholarships for International Students in the UK, Equal Access 2022


The University of York is seeking applicants for the Equal Access Scholarships for International Students program (non-EU students). The educational award is available to qualifying individuals who wish to attend postgraduate taught degree programs at the institution and would like to fund their tuition fees.



International (non-EU) undergraduate students seeking shelter in the United Kingdom can apply for two Equal Access Scholarships at the University of York. It’s a diverse set of degree programs aimed at preparing students to become world-class engineers and to realize their full potential.

To be considered for the scholarship you must:

  • have made York your first choice (firm preference) through UCAS 
  • have made York your first choice (firm preference) through UCAS 
  • have applied for asylum before applying for seat at university and 
  • do not have access to mainstream financing, such as student finance or local council grant

Worth of Scholarship 

The scholarship covers all tuition fees as well as a maintenance stipend of up to £10,660 to assist with living expenses.


Applicants must be international (non-EU) students with the following immigration status at the time of application:


• Discretionary/limited leave to remain (DLR/ LLR);
• Indefinite leave to remain (ILR);
• Humanitarian Protection (HP);
• Awaiting a decision on an application for refugee status;
• Leave as an Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Child (UASC leave)
• Refused Asylum Seeker – where the application for refugee status has been refused and the candidate has submitted an appeal or a fresh claim; or
• A dependent or partner of any of the above status groups.

Those who have previously earned a bachelor’s degree are not eligible.

How To Apply

As part of your application, you must provide a personal statement of no more than 400 words:

• Describe your familial circumstances and the obstacles you overcame to complete your studies, with a focus on your present situation in the United Kingdom.
• Information on your arrival in the UK, your place of origin, and the status of your asylum claim. You are not need to provide details about the circumstances that led to your asylum application unless you desire to.

You must also describe, in no more than 300 words, how this scholarship will assist you in achieving your long-term goals.
