David Orobosa Omoregie was born in Angell Town, Brixton, South London, on June 5, 1998, to Nigerian parents of the Edo ethnic group. His parents are Juliet Doris Omoregie, a nurse, and Frank Omoregie, a minister.

Benjamin and Christopher, his two older siblings, are five and eight years his junior, respectively. Dave’s father was deported to Nigeria due to visa complications when he was only a few months old; he believed he was in Nigeria on a missionary visa when, in fact, he was in Nigeria on a visitor’s visa.

Following a three-month separation, Dave’s mother and siblings were compelled to depart due to her apprehension of deportation.

Subsequently, the family was temporarily rendered destitute and compelled to reside on South London buses.

At the age of seven, Dave’s family relocated to Streatham, South London, from the vicinity of Brixton.

After observing his elder brother practice rapping at home, he began writing rhymes when he was 11 years old.

At the age of 14, he taught himself the piano after receiving an electric keyboard for Christmas from his mother. Both of Dave’s older siblings were incarcerated during his teenage years.

For his involvement in the gang murder, Christopher, the sibling of Dave, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 18 years under the law of joint enterprise.

Then, at the age of 15, Dave’s sibling Benjamin received a four-year prison term for larceny; he was released in 2018.

Dave attended Richmond upon Thames College in Twickenham and St Mark’s Academy in Mitcham to study philosophy, ethics, good design, and politics, respectively.

Despite being accepted to De Montfort University in Leicester with the intention of pursuing a legal education, he ultimately made the decision to prioritise his musical pursuits. Moreover, Dave is an avid supporter of Manchester United F.C.

Career

Dave, who was 16 years old at the time, debuted freestyle skiing on the BL@CKBOX platform in May 2015. Dave made his festival debut at Bestival in August 2016 by performing the tune alongside AJ Tracey on the Eskimo Dance stage.

Over the course of 2017, Dave issued a number of non-album singles. “Samantha” by J Hus reached its highest position on the Official Singles Chart at number 63, positioning it as the third most popular non-top-40 song of 2017.

Dave and Headie One, a British rapper, collaborated in January 2019 on the single “18Hunna,” which reached its highest position of number six on the U.K. Singles Chart.

Psychodrama, his debut album, was officially published on March 8, 2019. In its first week of release, the album debuted at number one in the United Kingdom, grossing 26,390 copies. Streaming services accounted for 79% of total sales, with 26.3 million copies sold.
